Hi, I'm Fran Cook, REALTOR® and real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Gundaker who both lives and specializes in the Soulard neighborhood. As someone who has lived in the Soulard neighborhood for more than ¾ of my life, I am an expert on the historic Soulard neighborhood of St. Louis City. I was born near the "island" in 1974 at St. Louis City Hospital #1 (now known as The Georgian Condos) in the nearby Peabody Darst Webbe neighborhood. Little did I know that I would have Soulard in my Soul from that day forward. I was baptized, and twenty-four years later got married to my husband Paul, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Soulard. I went to St. Joseph's School and Church in Soulard as a kid.

I have wonderful memories of shopping at Soulard Market (with my grandma and great uncle who raised me), buying fresh food, gobbling down fresh mini-donuts, and occasionally getting to pick out family pets from the pet store there.

I also have happy memories of when the Soulard Mardi Gras parade actually snaked through the narrow streets and around the corners of Soulard, long before it morphed into what has now become St. Louis Mardi Gras, one of the largest Mardi Gras celebrations in the world. I also remember going to Hullabaloo (it now only exists in cyberspace) and Remember Me and being able to buy costumes and vintage clothing before it was the cool thing to do.

I moved to the county with my "County Boy" husband for a little while, leaving my little cozy "island" of Soulard behind. I lived in South St. Louis County for five years before returning to city living in Benton Park for three years. I thought being just across Highway 55 from Soulard would suffice. Guess what? It still wasn't Soulard. I happily moved back to Soulard more than eight years ago and have been here ever since. I currently reside in Soulard with my family, within a few blocks of Anheuser-Busch, Gene Slay's Boys' Club, Vincent's 12th Street Market, and La Belle Histoire.
